Uncover the story behind Ireland’s most famous drink with the Irish Coffee Origins Experience at Peggy’s Whiskey Parlour. Guests will explore the rich history of Irish Coffee, from its creation in Foynes in the 1940s to its global legacy today. This interactive session blends storytelling and history with a practical demonstration of how to craft the perfect Irish Coffee, following the traditional recipe that made it world-renowned.
Led by WSET-trained staff, guests will learn about the key ingredients, techniques, and secrets behind achieving the perfect balance of whiskey, coffee, sugar, and cream. Each participant will then enjoy their very own expertly crafted Irish Coffee, made fresh during the session.
This experience offers a warm, authentic taste of Irish hospitality, perfect for visitors looking to connect with a true Irish tradition in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere at Mother Macs Public House.
The Limerick Whiskey Experience offers immersive Irish whiskey tastings, tours, and educational events. Based in Peggy’s Whiskey Parlour above Mother Macs Public House, our experiences explore the stories, flavours, and heritage of Irish whiskey through guided tastings with certified experts.
Most tastings take place in Peggy’s Whiskey Parlour — an intimate, purpose-designed tasting room in the heart of Limerick City. We also offer off-site tastings at customer locations, virtual tastings, and large group experiences in partner venues around Limerick.
A typical tasting includes 4–6 carefully selected Irish whiskeys, hosted by an expert guide. You’ll learn about tasting techniques, production, history, and the unique stories behind each bottle. Optional food pairings can be added on request.
We recommend booking at least 7–10 days in advance, especially for weekends or private group tastings. Short-notice bookings may be available depending on availability.

EXCELLENT Based on 6 reviews Thomas LassanskeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our group of four had a private tasting in the back room with a whiskey sommelier who knew her stuff. I've been to many distillery, winery and brewery tours and tastings in several countries, and this was the best so far. L GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mike was a great host, providing lots of history tasting tips on Irish Whiskey. Ben HonanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a great experience during this tasting. Mike was extremely accommodating and tailored the discussion based on our experience (one of us was a wine buff and another hates whiskey!). It was really interactive and enjoyable, and we discovered some new whiskeys that we ended up buying. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about Irish whiskey. Did this for a work Day/Night out, No pressure as we normally would go out in Dublin but I was selling the Local City of Limerick and TBH , I couldn't have asked for better with the team in Mother Mac's, All I can say was the experience was excellent and second to none and I highly recommend it.
